For some, the peak of Star Wars video game success was when Lucasfilm - or LucasArts, as it was later renamed - was much more directly involved in the process, even if the tail-end of the studio's efforts prior to its Disney acquisition weren't as beloved as more classic efforts. EA's use of the Star Wars license has been widely criticized thanks to the performance of initially promising titles like Star Wars Battlefront II, which ended up flopping due to its questionable microtransaction model that leaned heavily on loot boxes.

In recent years, the Star Wars video game license has been the property of developer and publisher EA, a decision that remains controversial among fans. Lucasfilm has been involved in gaming for decades at this point, with games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, and, of course, a slew of classic Star Wars titles all attributed to the company across its history and various names for its gaming arm. It's a new era of Star Wars games according to Lucasfilm Games, which announced its rebranded name for the Lucasfilm company's video game publishing endeavors earlier today.
